A Distributed Ledger Architecture for Mitigating Emissions Leakage and Double Counting of Carbon Credits in the Amazon
Abstract
This article proposes a permissioned blockchain-based architecture to strengthen the integrity of forest carbon credits in the Amazon. Credits are programmatically issued and retired through smart contracts on the blockchain network, reducing the risk of double counting and enhancing traceability. The validation included performance testing of the smart contracts. The results indicate the technical feasibility of the architecture to increase transparency in voluntary carbon markets.References
