Um Modelo de Simulação de Tráfego para Avaliação do Efeito de “Cruising for Parking” na Região Central de Curitiba

Abstract


The cruising for parking phenomenon causes overcrowding in urban roads due to the searching demand for parking space. This overcrowding is characterized by traffic congestion, vehicle travel delays, increased fuel consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions. This article proposes a traffic simulation model of an urban area of Curitiba to evaluate the effect of cruising for parking. The model is implemented in the PTV VISSIM traffic simulation software package. In a scenario with 30% and 50% of vehicles looking for spaces, there is an average increase of 2 and 3 min in the trip delay, respectively. The emission of CO2 has an increase of 42.9% with 50% of vehicles looking for parking spaces.
