Digital Games and 21st Century Skills
Abstract
21st century skills was defined by the Assessment and Teaching of 21st century skills (ATC21) as a way of thinking creatively, associated with innovation, aiming at problem solving and decision making. Activities involving games can provide these skills. However, a study is needed to evaluate this possibility. In this sense, this research aims to understand, through a validated instrument, the skills of the 21st century developed after a digital game development course in high school. The proposed work is a case study with high school students from public schools in a city in the metropolitan region of Salvador or in the city of Salvador itself, with the collection of data from the application of a questionnaire on skills of the 21st century and with analysis of quantitative pre- and post-test data. It is expected that with the introductory game development course participants will have developed the necessary skills for the 21st century.
