Towards accessibility for users with autism: a comparative analysis of guidelines

Resumo

The adoption of digital resources by people with autism is a reality. Its usage can be seen in pedagogical and therapeutic environments and for supporting daily quality life. In general, the inclusion covers the use of technology developed for generic public (services of e-commerce, communication, entertainment, etc.). In this scenario, accessibility assurance for autistic people is essential. However, the participatory design in the context of autism is a challenge considering the characteristics and particularities of the disorder. Therefore, an alternative for providing suitable resources for the autistic user is the adoption of accessibility recommendations (for both development and evaluation). Since there are different guidelines for assistive software development and evaluation, the decision-making process can be a hard task. Thus, this paper has description, characterization, and results discussion about a comparative of three accessibility guidelines, namely: COGA, GAIA, and AutismGuide.
