Playing with CAR: Cards with Adaptation Recommendations to make games playable for a broader audience
Resumo
This paper presents a card-based method to support game designers in identifying adaptation requirements. The authors analyzed studies from a systematic literature mapping on game adaptation and identified a research gap in solutions that support the design of adaptable games for a broader audience, contexts, and purposes of use. As a proposal, we compiled a set of recommendations for the design of adaptable games, represented them in the format of cards, and proposed an application method in collaborative workshops called CAR: Cards with Adaptation Recommendations. The cards and the method were evaluated in two practical studies with computing students and experts in Human-Computer Interaction. The results indicate that CAR has the potential to support the identification of requirements for adaptation in games, promoting discussion among participants and facilitating the identification of relevant socio-technical requirements to serve a broad audience.
