Pre-Deployment Evaluation of LLM-based Conversational Agents through a Digital Twin-Inspired Approach
Resumo
The dynamic and non-deterministic nature of large language models (LLMs) complicates conversational agent evaluation, particularly when assessing pre-deployment configurations under realistic conditions. To address this, a digital-twin-inspired architecture is proposed to monitor interactions and fork ongoing dialogues, enabling what-if analyses of alternative agent configurations using observed conversational contexts. To assess technical feasibility, we conducted an exploratory experiment using 3,996 simulated dialogues as a production proxy, generating 949 evaluation dialogues across four twin agents with varying parameters. The resulting interaction traces were analyzed with process mining techniques, showing the feasibility of the proposed architecture and its potential to support comparative evaluation of conversational agent modifications before deployment.
