This paper discusses the ethics of AI systems development. To this end, it presents the two complementary approaches in AI activities - the symbolic one, based on logical systems, and the adaptive one, based on machine learning. Then, it discusses what an ethical system is and the three different classes of such a system: based on virtues, based on duties, and based on consequences of actions. Moreover, it addresses the need to formulate technical requirements based on the ethical system and ways to measure how intelligent systems meet such requirements. Finally, they exemplify some initiatives in this direction.
