Extension Curricularization: Experiences and Proposals for Computing Undergraduate Courses
Abstract
The Curricularization of Extension is a challenge for higher education programs throughout Brazil. Already announced in the National Education Plans 2001-2011 and 2014-2024, with the publication of Resolution CNE/MEC 7/2018, its implementation in higher education programs became mandatory for at least 10% of the total workload. More than changes in curricula, this process requires (re)thinking the culture of development of university extension based on their own guidelines, such as dialogical interaction, interdisciplinarity, interprofessionality, the inseparability of teaching-research-extension, student training, and social transformation. Some of these aspects are addressed in the National Curriculum Guidelines for undergraduate programs in Computing, which propose encouraging university extension in an articulated way with teaching and research, as well as ways of implementing interdisciplinarity, in addition to the "development of skills, knowledge, skills and attitudes of the student, including those acquired outside the academic environment." However, few reports, even in forums on Computing education, show the alignment of extensionist practices with these guidelines. Even fewer are the reports that address the issue of extension curricularization. With this panel, it is proposed to share the experiences and proposals of extensionists from two public institutions of higher education. Thus, the aim is to contribute to the development of the curricularization of university extension in Computing programs in Brazil.
