Developing Storytelling with the Animaker platform: creating videos for teaching Computing

Abstract


The act of storytelling has always been and continues to be a way of passing on values, concepts and ideas and about the abstractions of empirical knowledge in relation to the world. The purpose of storytelling is to expand underlying meanings, which can contribute to the formation of individuals who are more humane, integral, supportive and aware of their role as citizens, as Peres, Neves and Borges (2018, apud Oliveira and Borges, 2021) state. Nowadays, the aim is to stimulate motivating processes that help to construct meanings that recover and value culture, values and perceptions of the world. It is in this scenario that storytelling has evolved into the concept of Storytelling, becoming a powerful tool for active learning. Storytelling consists of using narratives with social or cultural significance to promote reflection on concepts and values (Valença and Tostes, 2019, p. 222). Storytelling stands out in the field of education due to its ability to enhance communication, the mediation of ideas and the sharing of information, promoting increased student engagement and the focus of attention in the classroom (Oliveira and Castaman, 2020). This mini-course proposal aims to present the Animaker tool (https://animaker.com/) for creating videos to support computer science teaching. This practice can provide a more engaging, accessible and effective learning experience for students, while promoting understanding and retention of important concepts in the field.
