Umistick: A Buzzer Joystick Based on a Humidity Sensor
Abstract
Different approaches have been applied in the monitoring of physiological signs for breath detection. This article presents the Umistick, a joystick that allows the execution of control commands of digital games based on the variation of humidity generated by the act of blowing. For this, the prototyped hardware scheme, the logic defined for the keyboard command generation system, and the results obtained with preliminary gameplay tests are described. As a result, a simple, low-cost and easy-to-maintain solution was found that could provide satisfactory performance and playability, as well as represent a new approach to performing repetitive exercises in speech therapy.
