Intra-class social networks and academic performance - an initial analysis
Abstract
Understanding the effect of the various factors that influence academic performance is an important requirement for improving educational practices. Because humans are highly sociable beings, social factors can play an important role in the academic context. This paper analyzes the impact on academic performance of social variables such as a student's circle of friends and group dynamics variables such as grouping trends. The analysis is based on data from 6 classes of the Databases discipline. This paper presents initial results that demonstrate statistically relevant correlations between social factors and academic performance.
