Analysis of Operator Inclusion in Industry 4.0 Through Interactive Virtual Installations: A Case Study on Mining Industry

Abstract

Industrial evolutions driven by emerging technologies demand new human-computer interactions. This study investigates the use of immersive Virtual Reality in constructing accessible industrial environments for people with low vision. Based on a real case from the mining industry, a 3D simulation was developed to evaluate the interaction of users with and without disabilities. Sixteen participants were involved in analyzing workload and behavior during tasks. The results show improvement in workload in alternative layouts to the real environment, suggesting that customization through virtualization tends to be a viable and inclusive approach, contributing with insights for the HCI area.
