From Diagnosis to Action: Advances in Research on Ethics in AI Applied to HCI

Abstract

Introduction: One of the Grand Challenges in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) in Brazil (GranDIHC-BR 2025–2035) proposes rethinking HCI in light of advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI), prioritizing the understanding of human and social aspects of interaction with these systems. Objective: Our research aims to address this challenge, more specifically the consideration of ethics in AI within HCI. Methodology: The research encompasses two systematic literature reviews on AI ethics—one secondary and one tertiary—and an investigation into how ethical values are communicated in generative AI system interfaces. Results: By combining findings from the literature with practical design aspects, the research contributes to the creation of more transparent, accountable, and human-centered AI systems.
