Using Gamification Strategies in a HCI Course: An Experience Report
Abstract
The Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) course addresses the concepts used to make interactive a software system. In this sense, the realization of practical projects allows students to apply these concepts and develop technical skills in the area. However, only these projects do not guarantee that all students will engage in the course activities proposed by the professor. This paper presents an experience report of the adoption of gamification elements in the HCI course offered at Federal University of Pará, whose purpose was the WhatsApp interface customization. Thus, the project activities were organized in stages so that the student-player could apply the HCI concepts in a gradual way. In addition, the scores, medals and awards were defined for each stage. This report presents the results obtained and the professor-facilitator (teaching) and of the student-players (learning) viewpoint in relation to the discipline gamification.
