The impact of electronic games on students' academic life: an analysis of a public school in the countryside of Minas Gerais

The video games sector has grown exponentially in recent years, adapting to an increasingly competitive and demanding market ranging from casual gamers to professionals. This has led to the universe of games being included in various scenarios like education. Although this concept can benefit some student's lives, others end up experiencing the negative side of games. This study aimed to analyze the impact of electronic games on students' academic lives. Results indicate that most student participants play video games regularly, with 94.4% engaging in e-Sports. Among them, 50% play daily, and 14.1% play for more than 7 hours a day. Prolonged exposure to electronic games has negative health impacts, with 69.6% of students reporting physical and mental symptoms such as eye strain, back and neck pain, as well as fatigue and discomfort. Additionally, 34.8% of students believe that gaming affects their studies, which is supported by academic data showing that only 20.7% fall within the "excellent academic performance" range.
