The Proceedings of the 5th Brazilian Symposium on Ubiquitous and Pervasive Computing (SBCUP 2013) bring the papers selected and presented in the edition of the event held in Maceió/AL from July 23 to 26, as part of the 33rd Brazilian Computing Society Congress (CSBC 2013) which had the theme "Smart Cities: Challenges for Computing". In this issue, the proceedings include 15 full papers. These works were selected from a total of 65 submitted articles, which implied a 23% acceptance rate for complete articles. The event's program committee was coordinated by Iara Augustin (UFSM) and André Luiz Lins de Aquino (UFAL), who organized this volume. The articles in this volume were submitted on 04/15/2013, and accepted for publication on 05/24/2013, with the final version submitted on 06/03/2013.
