Structuring and Applying a Game Design Document Standard
Abstract
The game design stage involves the creation of various game elements, such as sound, images, characters, and plot. However, inexperienced game development teams may face difficulties due to the lack of a standardized template for the Game Design Document (GDD). This research identified phases that contributed to the establishment of a GDD standard with methodology, stages, roles, and structures to assist teams in documenting their game development process. To achieve this, a literature review was conducted, and a proof of concept was carried out using Nintendo's Super Mario game franchise. The study successfully identified key aspects of the proposed standard and evaluated its applicability in a real-world context.
