Abstract

The research and representation of vulnerable individuals and groups play a crucial role in understanding and promoting the transformation of social realities through information technology education. In this sense, it is essential to acknowledge that the lack of direct participation from the involved populations at the beginning of the research may limit their approaches, diverting the research focus from the genuine interests of the communities, marginalizing leadership voices, and compromising the scientist's approach to the complexity of the social issues involved. Considering community engagement in research as fundamental for technology production that meets their needs, we propose an initial investigation on the data literacy learning interests of vulnerable communities in Rio de Janeiro, aiming to find consistent approaches for creating and deepening relationships in Human-Data Interaction teaching and learning.
