A Comparative Study Between Leaders' and Team Members' Views on the Importance of Soft Skills in Software Development

Abstract


The software industry has been looking for professionals who have competence and assertive vision around soft skills. In this sense, this work aims to analyze and compare which are the most important soft skills from the perspective of leaders and non leaders. To this end, we surveyed 42 professionals from the Instituto Atlântico, one of the largest Science and Technology Centers in Brazil. As results, we found that, from the leaders perspective, communication, commitment & responsibility, team work and motivation are the most valued soft skills. From the non leaders perspective, team work, commitment & responsibility, communication and will to learn ranked as the top valued soft skills. As contributions, an analytical reflection is presented on the importance of soft skills from the perception of leaders and non leaders.
