My VR Academia: Uma Ferramenta de Realidade Virtual para Treinamento de Apresentações em Ambientes Imersivos
Resumo
Oral presentations are common activities in academic settings and require subject knowledge, communication, and social interaction skills, which can be challenging to develop. These difficulties can be even more significant for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), for whom public speaking situations may increase social anxiety. To support the development of these competencies, particularly for students with ASD, this paper presents My VR Academia, a Virtual Reality platform designed to simulate academic presentations in immersive environments. The platform consists of a mobile application developed with React Native, a virtual environment implemented in Unity, and a back-end developed with ASP.NET Core, responsible for asynchronous presentation processing, automatic question generation using a Large Language Model, and speech synthesis for interactions with the virtual audience. The platform allows users to configure session parameters, such as presentation duration, audience size, and number of questions, enabling different levels of training difficulty. Its architecture adopts an event-driven asynchronous processing model combined with real-time communication, designed to reduce the impact of the latency introduced by artificial intelligence and speech synthesis services on the user experience. The current requirements were derived from the literature on VR, social anxiety, and ASD, rather than from direct requirements elicitation with the target population. The platform is currently under development and provides a first functional prototype, serving as a foundation for future usability, question-quality, and effectiveness evaluations – including its potential impact on social anxiety – particularly for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
