From Planning to Publishing: Building Scientific, Educational, and Institutional Portals with WordPress
Resumo
Web portals play an important role in communicating institutional, educational, and scientific information. However, developing an effective portal requires more than configuring a Content Management System (CMS); it involves defining communication goals and target audiences, organizing content, designing the information architecture, and considering accessibility and long-term maintenance. This paper presents a two-hour tutorial on the planning and construction of scientific, educational, and institutional portals using WordPress. The tutorial introduces a structured workflow that connects communication objectives and audience needs to content modeling, navigation design, WordPress configuration, and portal evaluation. It combines concise conceptual discussions with a guided hands-on activity in which participants build a representative institutional portal in a local development environment. Complementary topics, including search engine optimization, accessibility, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in content management, are also discussed. By the end of the tutorial, participants are expected to understand how planning and implementation decisions jointly influence portal quality and to produce a functional prototype that can be adapted to different organizational contexts.
