Privacy in Online Education in Pandemic Times: A survey of adopted practices and future possibilities

Abstract


The adaptation of face-to-face teaching to remote teaching due to the COVID-19 pandemic has created privacy challenges for teachers and students. However, we did not find much information on how educational institutions guided those involved in the process of protecting and using the personal data of teachers and students. Therefore, through a qualitative study with teachers and students (n = 91), we identified how guidance was given to those involved in online activities on some privacy issues. We found that 40% of faculty never received privacy guidance. We also identified some good practices that institutions, faculty, and students can follow.
