Implementação e testes do Virtual OLT Hardware Abstraction (VOLTHA) em redes SD-PON

Abstract


This article describes the testbed used in the OpenRAN@Brasil project to check the functionalities and resources of VOLTHA (Virtual Optical Line Termination Hardware Abstraction) when controlling SD-PON (Software Defined Passive Optical Networks). Components that will compose the experimental environment are described, as well as the topology of each one of the sites in the Centro de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento em Telecomunicações (CPQD) and Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa (RNP), organizations that are developing the project in partnership. Advantages and disadvantages related to the employment of the testbed are presented, and the implementation is made to emulate an FTTx network (Fiber to the “x”), composed of OLT (Open Line Terminal) and ONU (Optical Network Unit), with simulations for the control plane and considerations about a data plane developed with OVS (OpenVSwitch) complementary to the control plane. Through this emulated environment, it was possible to carry out a deployment and perform tests with several characteristics similar to those that will be implemented in the ideal testbed.
