Abstract

Social media platforms take part in the process of defining beauty standards, whether reinforcing real-world standards or creating new definitions to be replicated outside the digital environment. However, this process is conducive to the surfacing of biases. Previous studies focus on assessing the impact of gender and ethnicity on beauty standards and biases that may arise from them. However, little is discussed about the impact of nudity on the perception of beauty in images on social media. In this work, we explore this gap, analyzing photos posted on Instagram.
