Using Technology Probe in Software Systems Engineering for Healthcare

Abstract


The growing demand for IoT systems in healthcare drives the creation of wearable devices for continuous patient monitoring. However, effectively building these devices requires a comprehensive engineering approach seeking quality hardware, software, and manufacturing. This study describes two Technology Probe (TP) sessions to evaluate the usability and suitability of an IoT device for collecting patient clinical condition data (oxygen saturation, temperature, and heart rate) to support hospital monitoring and share strategies and learned lessons on executing validated learning cycles to gather insight from prospective users, in terms of emotional reactions, opinions, and ideas. A set of requirements proposals was organized to support decisions on evolving the idealized proposal, and improvement possibilities to the TP strategy were identified.
