Technology in the empirical study of musical performance

Abstract

This paper presents methods and describes the experience of using computer technology in undergraduate school subjects and practices in the context of music performance research and higher level music education. The use of computational tools for quantitative analysis of sound parameters is explored as a rich medium for music teaching and research. Professionals and students evaluated the experiencie as positive, allowing for a good understanding of the opportunities and challenges presented by the proposed approach.
