Writing with AI: ChatGPT as an ally in writing in English as an additional language

  • Adriana Almeida Fernandes UERN

Abstract

The minicourse presents the foundations and the didactic-pedagogical proposal for the use of ChatGPT as a writing assistant in English as an additional language (EAL). Aligned with approaches grounded in multiliteracies and digital literacy, it discusses the role of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) in the teaching and learning process of writing in EAL, conceived as an active and recursive practice. The methodology combines theoretical input, practical demonstrations using ChatGPT and moments of critical reflection. The aim is to promote critical teacher education and the ethical, creative, and contextualized use of AI in the development of writing in EAL.
