Abstract

Simulation is a technique used in various fields of knowledge. It is important for reducing costs by allowing conditions and properties to be instantiated and tested during the project phase. In this context, it is important to understand how the community publishing in Brazilian computing outlets has been utilizing simulation. This article presents the results of a rapid and scoping review that analyzed 398 studies from SBC-OpenLib to investigate how simulation is applied in Brazilian academic research. The results show that the main application areas identified include software engineering, Industry 4.0, smart cities, and biology, and that there are varied motivations for its use, such as the need to test systems in controlled environments and the physical infeasibility of real tests.
Keywords: simulation, review, academic research, software engineering, industry 4.0
