Augmentative and Alternative Communication for children with ASD: development of an application focusing on User Experience

Abstract


Introduction: With the advancement of digital technologies, mobile applications emerge as promising resources for enabling personalized Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) solutions. However, the effectiveness of these resources depends on attention to the User Experience (UX). Objective: This article aims to develop an AAC application aimed at nonverbal children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), with a focus on UX. Methodology: This phase integrated the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) to support the prototype creation and refinement stages. Expected Results: The research reveals that the solution meets the target audience's communication experience by providing varied ways to insert images and audio according to their reality and needs.
