An experience using GAIA for accessibility inspection of YouTube with a focus on autism
Abstract
Users with Autistic Spectrum disorder (ASD) may face barriers in the use of interactive systems, because they present difficulties related to social interaction, communication, a limited set of interests and activities, and they may not understand or perceive certain content, terms, and figures present in the user interface. In view of this, previous researches have created accessibility guidelines for people with ASD and, more recently, GAIA: Guidelines for Accessible Interfaces for people with Autism. Previous researches indicate that YouTube is widely used by users with ASD. We conducted an accessibility evaluation by performing an inspection with the participation of eight inspectors. The contribution of this paper is the experience report of the YouTube accessibility evaluation with focus on autism and the presentation of the main accessibility problems identified.
