Abstract

The respiratory rate (RR) is an important information source about an individual health condition however, the options available, in addition to be very expensive, require a controlled environment and/or the usage of equipment not suitable for routine use. For data acquisition for measurement of RR, is proposed the use of two accelerometers, being one frontal to allow the reading of acceleration forces exerted on the trunk by the action of respiration and another on the back used as reference of movement perception. The objective of this work is to demonstrate the feasibility of such apparatus, allowing its use in vital sign monitoring projects.
