Semiautomatic alignment of surgical guide in jaw tomography to aid in planning and guided dental implant surgery
Abstract
The Cone Beam Computed Tomography procedure may be impaired by factors like magnetic field, metal artifacts in the images, slice thickness or the placement of the patient's head during the test, which can highly compromise the planning phase of the dental implantation. In order to minimize the error factors one could incorporate into the application a method for aligning the tomographic guide. In this work we propose the development of a method for geometric alignment, known as reclineWithThreePoints-rWTP, for repositioning the tomographic guide onto the horizontal position. The method has shown very effective in properly aligning the tomographic guide on the three coordinate points, ensuring high reliability in planning dental implant.
