A Transformational Approach to Generating Communication Modules in Health Information Systems
Abstract
The distributed nature of activities in the healthcare domain leads to a large amount of information that is generated and must be fully understood by all the stakeholders. Communication is therefore a key challenge to the development and adoption of interoperable Health Information Systems (HISes). In this context, there has been considerable effort in the specification and standardization focused on the structure, documentation, and communication of clinical data, with the aim to reach semantic interoperability between HISes. Nevertheless, the profusion of such efforts brings back another equally important problem: the syntactic interoperability of such systems. This paper discusses about the use of model-driven development techniques to aid in the generation of communication modules that cater for syntactic interoperability between HISes.References
