3D Reconstruction from Thermographic Images: Evaluation of 3D Models and Breast Symmetry

Abstract


This research performs digital breast supervision in 3D from 2D thermographic images and develops an objective methodology to evaluate these reconstructions, based on 24 measurements consider lengths, areas and volumes. The results indicated differences of up to 7.5% in relation to thermal images and 6% in comparison with scans. In addition, a classification of breast symmetry is proposed using 12 indexes, with an accuracy rate of 60%. The method demonstrates potential to expand the way thermal exams are viewed, in addition to contributing to the classification of breast symmetry.
