Exploring Scaffolding Software: Assistance to Learners during Task Execution

Abstract


The idea of Scaffolding arises from the interaction among individuals and is based on Vygotsky’s socio-constructivist theory. Initially, six types of support that an adult can provide were identified: maintaining the learner’s interest, reducing task complexity, simplifying the activity, maintaining focus, highlighting and demonstrating essential task characteristics, managing frustration, and presenting ideal pathways to solutions. Therefore, we suggest an instructional activity for elementary school students aimed at introducing various Scaffolding strategies that can be used in learning support software.
