Literature and BNCC Computing: A cross-sectional approach using the BBC micro:bit microcontroller for the development of computational thinking in elementary school - final years

Abstract

The standards regarding Computing in Basic Education - Complement to the BNCC, since its approval by the Ministry of Education, have posed a significant challenge for teachers and educators in basic education in Brazil. The approach described here was interdisciplinary, as it was integrated into the literature curriculum for students in five 6th-grade classes at a private school in the city of Juiz de Fora. In this context, students combined the reading of Monteiro Lobato's novel "Viagem ao Céu" with the use of the BBC micro:bit to mobilize the skills of the Computational Thinking axis of the BNCC Computing, programming the microcontroller to operate as a compass.
