The Role of the Gaming Community in Formulating a Hypothesis about Cosmic Rays in Super Mario 64
Abstract
The aim of this work is to understand the formulation of a hypotesis that adequately addresses an anomaly recorded on the Twitch streaming platform during a Super Mario 64 speedrun competition. Initially, we will analyze the events during the game and how the gaming community proposed that a Single Event Upset (SEU) was recorded live. After that, we will study what an SEU is, along with the conditions under which it occurs and how such an event explains the recorded anomaly. Thus, by using games as a multidisciplinary analytical element, we can comprehend the importance of studying the event for the development of new technologies.
