Vórtex Numérico: An Educational Game to Exercise Computational Thinking and Mathematics in a Playful Way

Abstract

The last PISA (International Student Assessment Program) results indicate that 50% of Brazilian students performed below level 2 in mathematics. This scenario is related to several difficulties, including learning basic operations. In this aspect, considering educational games as a strategy to enable motivation and, subsequently, engagement, this work presents "Vórtex Numérico", a game to assist in learning the four basic mathematical operations and in the development of Computational Thinking. It is currently in a high-fidelity prototype on the Unity game engine, anchored in Ausubel's Theory of Meaningful Learning.
