Development Report of an Oncology Application Following a User-centered Design Methodology
Resumo
The early diagnosis of childhood cancer is still a challenge since the signs and symptoms are non-specific and confused with common diseases’ symptoms. Given this scenario, there is a need to explore the use of new technologies aimed at health care. In this context, this paper reports the development of APPonco, a mobile oncology application available for Android and iOS that helps health professionals to diagnose childhood and adolescent cancer. We developed the app following a methodology focused on the user experience. This methodology is divided into five levels: strategy, scope, structure, skeleton, and surface. In these steps, requirements were collected and analyzed to define the scope of the application design through meetings with stakeholders to meet the needs of healthcare professionals and patients. Through the methodology, we have defined the elements presented on the user interface and subsequently elaborated a high-fidelity functional prototype for the application. Finally, we performed a usability evaluation to validate the APPonco application interface, and we collected feedback from the project team regarding the methodology used to develop the application.
