Abstract

Remote monitoring and intelligent intervention over machines are essential in a smart industrial environment. However, heterogeneity of machines complicates the construction of solutions for this purpose. This work describes the use of Smart Gateways for providing a smart industrial environment. A Smart Gateway is responsible for providing machines’ resources as RESTful Web Services for clients and Web applications, besides sending monitored data to a persistence service in the Cloud. As a proof of concept, a smart industrial environment was conceived to an enterprise. Functional and performance tests confirm the viability of the solution in this case study.
