Abstract

The use of energy becomes more transparent through smart meters, which minimize costs and identify losses and energy thefts. These meters are expensive and still need a communication infrastructure to send consumer data to the service provider. This work explores the widespread use of smartphones to analyze a solution based on crowdsensing to acquire consumption data. This paper presents the advantages and challenges of this new consumption measurement model. A proof of concept demonstrates the proposed solutions functions and assesses its applicability.
