Abstract

The growing interconnectivity of objects in the IoT enables them to interact, exchange information, and collaborate in new ways to accomplish collective tasks. However, this development presents several ongoing research challenges. Within this context, this article introduces the concept of Virtual Interactions between Social Objects (VISO), an approach that addresses functional requirements of an architecture designed specifically for the Social IoT, particularly the autonomous recommendation of friendships. VISO harnesses the concept of object virtualization to enable autonomous operation within the environment. Preliminary results suggest that organizing objects into communities can enhance service or friendship recommendations in a socially aware and personalized manner.
