The Proceedings of the 1st Brazilian Workshop on High Performance Computing Systems (WSCAD 2000) bring the papers selected and presented in the edition of the event held in São Pedro/SP, from October 25 to 27, 2000. In this issue, the proceedings include 9 short papers. These works were selected through a peer-review. The event's program committee was coordinated by Alba Cristina Magalhães Alves de Melo (UnB), who organized this volume.
