Resumo

The TV 3.0 project aims to modernize broadcast television in Brazil, introducing, among other innovations, support for multisensory experiences (mulsemedia) that transcend traditional audiovisual content. However, the integration of sensory effects devices, such as lamps and aroma diffusers, into the TV receiver is hampered by the heterogeneity of their communication protocols. This work presents the design and implementation of a prototype for the Sensory Effect Presentation Engine (SEPE), a component designed in the TV 3.0 architecture to act as a bridge between the Ginga middleware and these devices. Through SEPE, Ginga-HTML5 applications, in addition to GINGA-NCL applications, can benefit from sensory effects to make content more engaging for viewers. Based on a modular architecture and the Adapter design pattern, SEPE was developed to be extensible. The prototype was validated by implementing adapters for devices with different communication models — one local (Xiaomi Yeelight smart bulb) and one cloud-based (Moodo aroma diffuser) — and through a quantitative performance evaluation. The results demonstrated the functionality and efficiency of the solution, with communication latencies within acceptable limits for good Quality of Experience, validating the proposed architecture as a viable solution for orchestrating sensory effects in the TV 3.0 ecosystem.
