The role of study habit in student programming performance
Abstract
Solving problems is an essential task in an introductory programming course. The way students organize their time and are dedicated to that activity characterizes her study habits. In this paper we evaluate the role of study habits on student performance. Therefore, we measured and compared the total time of study, the number of study sessions, numbers of studying days and the number of solved exercises with the student’s final grade in the course. Our results indicate that the greatest predictor of success in our course is the amount of solved exercises. We also observed that the distribution of study time in daily sessions may offer for better student performance than to concentrate their studies in a few days.
