Abstract

With the growth of the information technology in the society, and consequently, in the educational system, and the challenges in accessing new technologies, the use of free software is a promising solution. Free and Open Source Software is, currently, an essential basis in any institution. Thanks to the concepts that the free software movement follows, it is possible to democratize the access to these technologies. This work aims: to present a way to elaborate and to drive workshops about SLs for novice students in informatic courses; and to promote the use of the GNU/Linux Operational System as a gateway to other Free Softwares, and also as an alternative to proprietary softwares. At the end, a quantitative evaluation was carried out based on direct observation and information collected by means of questionnaires.
