João Pessoa Women Techmakers Community: history, achievements and initial perception of its members

Abstract

There are still many challenges that prevent women from starting and staying in the technology area, and a good part of them are related to cultural barriers and the lack of reception in academic and professional environments. The creation of female communities and the holding of events for this audience have proved to be important initiatives to encourage them to grow and also to give visibility to their needs and their potential. The present work reports the impact of one of these communities, started in 2016 in the State of Paraíba, and presents an initial analysis of the profile of the women who compose it concerning aspects such as race, age, and gender identity.
