Gender Issues and the Evasion of Women in Computer Courses: A Case Study in the Metropolitan Region of Belém

Abstract

Faced with a scenario of little incentive for women to enter the field of computing, which contributes to the low number of women and the high dropout rate of those who enter, this article seeks to identify the reasons that lead so many women to give up their academic career through the application of a questionnaire about the female experience in Information Technology courses in the Metropolitan Region of Belém. To analyze the answers to the questionnaire, IRAMUTEQ and WEKA software were used, applying algorithms of speech analysis, as well as data mining to identify patterns among the answers, and, later, to identify the reasons for dropout.
