O Cientista ou A Cientista? Reflexões sobre o Impacto dos Estereótipos de Gênero sobre as Escolhas Profissionais de Alunas do Ensino Médio

Abstract

Gender stereotypes limit the career choices of women, who grow up believing that some professions are better suited for men, and there is no room for women. One of these areas is Technology. This paper investigates the perception of female high school students about the identity of a scientist and reflects on the implications on their career choices. An active methodology was used where 72 female students from three inner state schools represented a "scientist person" through hand drawings, name, and gender. In these representations 79.2% identified "scientist" as a male person, which corroborates the students' gender bias towards careers in science.
