Gender equity in the formal labor market: an analysis of the professional insertion of female ICT students in ceará

Abstract

This study investigates the participation of female students from the Federal Institute of Ceará (IFCE) in the formal labor market. Using a quantitative approach, 5,590 students from Information Technology and Communication (ICT) courses were examined, as well as the formal jobs they held from 2017 to 2021. The results highlight a persistent gender disparity, with women being in smaller numbers in course enrollment and completion, showing a higher dropout rate and lower presence in prominent positions in the job market. These findings underscore the importance of promoting female leadership from basic education, aiming to achieve a more equitable distribution of educational and professional opportunities in the ICT field.
